Floor wipes make mopping fast and bucket-free. Here is how to use them with a flat mop, which floors they suit and how they compare to a traditional mop and bucket.
Floor wipes are one of the fastest ways to keep hard floors clean. There is no bucket to fill, no dirty water to tip away and no mop head to wash. In this guide we explain how to use floor wipes properly, which floors they suit, and when they are a better choice than a traditional mop and bucket.
What Are Floor Wipes?
Floor wipes are large, pre-moistened cleaning cloths designed specifically for floors. They are bigger and tougher than normal wet wipes and usually attach to a flat-head mop, so you can clean a whole room standing up. Our White Soap floor wipes and lemon floor wipes come in packs of 50.
How to Use Floor Wipes: Step by Step
- Sweep or vacuum first. Remove crumbs, grit and hair so the wipe can focus on dirt and marks.
- Attach a wipe to your flat mop. Place the mop head in the centre of the wipe and tuck the edges into the grips. Our flat floor mop comes with 50 wipes to get you started.
- Start in the far corner. Work backwards towards the door so you never walk on the clean floor.
- Use overlapping strokes. A figure-of-eight or side-to-side motion picks up the most dirt.
- Change the wipe when it looks dirty. A kitchen or hallway may need two wipes; a small bathroom usually needs one.
- Let the floor air-dry. It only takes a few minutes.
Tip: keep a pack by the back door or in the kitchen for quick spot-cleans of muddy footprints and spills, by hand, without getting the mop out.
Which Floors Can You Use Floor Wipes On?
- Ceramic and porcelain tiles: ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.
- Laminate: floor wipes are only lightly damp, so you avoid soaking laminate joints.
- Vinyl and LVT: great for quick daily cleans.
- Sealed wood: fine for light cleaning; test a small hidden area first.
Avoid using floor wipes on unsealed wood, waxed floors, carpet or rugs. Floor wipes are for floors only — never use them on skin, and never flush them.
Floor Wipes vs Mop and Bucket
Floor wipes are better when:
- You want a quick daily clean in a few minutes
- You have laminate or vinyl that should not get too wet
- You are cleaning a small space, flat or upstairs bathroom
- You want to avoid a smelly, bacteria-holding mop head
A mop and bucket is better when:
- You are deep-cleaning a very large or very dirty area
- You need a specific floor cleaning chemical
Most homes use both: floor wipes for fast day-to-day cleaning, and a bucket for the occasional deep clean.
